Gold Rush Days..Following Highway 52 east across the rugged southern end of the Blue Ridge Mountains, our next Dahlonega and Gold rush Days stop is the celebration of north Georgia's first major industry and America's first Gold Rush. On the third full weekend in the month of October, citizens from around the world make their way to tiny Dahlonega. With over 300 vendors, Gold Rush Days claims the prize as northeast Georgia's largest fair. In addition to bluegrass music there are such traditional festivities as hog calling, a liar's contest, crosscut sawing, clogging and buck dancing.

Annual Georgia Marble Festival - October 7 & 8, 2006
During the first full weekend in October, Jasper, Georgia and the entire Marble Valley of Pickens County host the annual Georgia Marble Festival. This full weekend of celebration begins with the Marble Festival Road Race on Saturday morning, followed by the Festival Parade down Jasper's Main Street.
After the parade, head over to Lee Newton Park where the entire family will enjoy over 100 arts and crafts booths, a Fine Art Competition Exhibition, live music, clogging and dancing, a classic car show, and a children's area. Don't miss the opportunity to take a guided tour of the world's largest open pit marble quarry at the Georgia Marble Company's Tate operation. This is the only time of the year the quarries are open to the public! Learn about the multitude of uses for marble at the Calcium Products Division. The parade starts at 10:30 am and Festival grounds open at 10:00 am. There are free shuttles and ample parking! Admission for adults is $4, Students $3, and children under 12 FREE! The Marble quarry tours are $10 per person and sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so make your reservations for the quarry tours early.

Oktoberfest in Helen, Ga.

Every year since 1970 Georgia's most famous Oktoberfest transforms tranquil Helen into the ultimate north Georgia party town. Helen, Georgia became known as a tourist capital shortly after changing its appearence to look like a town in the Bavarian Alps. Good natured Pete Hodkinson, one of the four men responsible for revitalizing Helen, also created Oktoberfest, copied from the Bavarian town of Munich.
