Divided by five miles of the beautiful Coosawattee River where you can enjoy tubing, canoeing, fly-fishing and kayaking. The formation of the Coosawattee is where the Ellijay and Cartecay River meet then continues to flow about 7 miles where it feeds into Carter's Lake which is one of North Georgia's best kept secrets....well almost.
The beauty of the lake is breathe-taking. It is over 62 miles of unsurpassed beauty. Over 3,200 acres with hiking, camping, RV camping, beach, fishing, boating, skiing, mountain biking and hunting. Remember to take a drive by the Carters Lake Dam. It is the tallest earthen dam east of the Mississippi River. There is a special park to enjoy family picnics and gatherings. The kids will love the park like setting with swing sets and slides. Keep in mind safety while swimming at Carters Lake. It is more than 450 feet deep.
Carters Lake embraces a spectacular tract of foothills scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. The shoreline has no private docks or development along 62 miles of natural shoreline. The lake is named after Farrish Carter who owned property nearby in the 1800's. All this only 3 miles from the Eagle Mountain Gate. There are 4 entraces into the Resort. The main entrance is off Hwy 382 as well as the Eagle Mountain Entrance. You can access the Ellington Road and Legion Gate entrances off Ellington Road and Legion Rd. The resort is sectioned into 4 parts. They have their own special names....Beaver Lake, Eagle Mountain, Beaver Bend, and Beaver Forest.
